Do you have difficulties knowing how to pronounce verbs ending with ed?

READ THIS and it will be easier for you to use the right way of pronouncing regular verbs.

Final -ed verbs has three different pronunciations: /t/, /d/, /Id/.

1. Final -ed is pronounce /t/ after most voiceless sounds. Voiceless sounds are made by pushing air through your mouth; no sound comes from your throat.
Examples of voiceless sounds: /p/, /k/, /f/, /s/,/sh/, /ch/.

Stopped = stop + /t/ ("stopt")
Talked = talk + /t/ ("talkt")

2. Final -ed is pronounce /d/ after most voiced sounds. Voiced sounds come from your throat. If you touch your neck when you make a voiced sound, you can feel your voice box vibrate. Your voice box produces voiced sounds.
Examples of voiced sounds: /b/, /v/, /n/, and all vowel sounds.

Robbed = rob + /d/ ("robd")
Lived = live + /d/ ("livd")

3. Final -ed pronounced /Id/ after words that end in "t" or "d". /Id/ adds a whole syllable to a word.

Wanted = want + /Id/ ("want-ud")
Needed = need = /Id/ ("need-up")
